Magnus Ingemund Kjelstad, born 1991, is educated at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and the Opera Academy in Copenhagen with Susanna Eken as his teacher.
He made his debut at the Opera in Copenhagen in 2017, and sang several roles on the main stage during his studies. After graduating in 2019, he sang Morales/Dancaïre in Carmen, and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte at the Opera in Copenhagen.
Magnus was employed in the Opear Studio at the Norwegian Opera in the seasons 20/21 and 21/22. Here he sang roles such as Schaunard in La Boheme, Jupiter in Orfeus in Underworld and Morales in Carmen.
In the following seasons, he has been seen on the main stage in Oslo on several occasions; as Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, Karl in Nothing and Edwin in Die Czardasfürstin.
He has also performed in several productions at the disctrict-operas of Norway - worth mentioning is Marcello in Puccini - La Boheme, Simon in Push, written by Howard Moody, and Sandbuchs/Erik Madsen in Edvard Bræin’s Den Stundesløse.
Magnus is also a passionate lied and oratory singer. On his repertoire is Carmina Burana, Winterreise and Händel’s The Messiah. In recent years, he has sung several concerts with larger song cycles by Agathe Backer Grøndahl, at Troldhaugen in Bergen, in Sweden’s National Museum in Stockholm and in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
